It appears that the latest fad idea in town is to boycott the Census, because the data will be processed by an American arms company — Lockheed Martin.
(Where would this town be, without the Grauniad to seed ideas of dissent, I ask myself.)
But as one of our own local American imports to the resident population points out : a boycott won’t make any difference. Lockheed will still be paid their £150 millions of British taxpayers’ money; and the town will be mis-represented in the census data, yet again; with concomitant knock-on effects on funding for local needs.
I tend to agree. Much as I deeply loathe north Americans having anything to do with British government schemes (they’re only in it for the money, after all), I don’t think the average man in the street has a snowball’s chance in hell of making a dent in their ruthless drive for profit.
So I’ll be filling in my form online, as intended.
